This is the first time I’ve ever attempted a pure Soul compilation using only Jamaican sounds, here’s a collection of mainly forgotten and unknown, all of which, with the exception of a couple of ballads, could possibly be given an outing at your local soul nights. I have purposely avoided the blatantly obvious records such as I Feel So Bad and instead gone for things that hopefully a lot of listeners will be hearing for the first time. Not to be confused with my recent podcast Jamaican Soul Shake, which was only called that because every artist or track had the word ‘Soul’ in it! This one begins with a couple of R & B tunes originally released on the Blue Beat label and I think the latest track is probably 1974. I’ve also avoided putting any Jamaican funk on as that would also have been too easy as there are numerous compilations of that material available.
