This is the fourth episode of The Casino Years and even looking back now, it’s a strange one. 1977 had begun superbly and the early moths were probably my favourite ever on the scene. As the year progressed, one or two mediochre records were getting plays, and by 1978, I went every single week but it wasn’t for the music, it was for the people, the scene and the gear. The lowest points came in the shape of several substandard British pop stompers (with a couple of decent exceptions). So although this episode does contain many fantastic tunes, it also shows the start of the decline. Don’t despair though. 1979 is just around the corner and Messrs. Searling and Anderson were about to treat us to some of the greatest Northern Soul records ever discovered and the Casino got its groove back.
