Two of my favorite albums of 2020 made generous use of pedal steel or slide guitar, "Promise" by Suss and "Roped In" by North Americans. https://suss.bandcamp.com/album/promise https://northamericanszone.bandcamp.com/album/roped-in-2 Both albums are beautiful & deserve your attention.
Those albums got me in the mood for some Daniel Lanois. When I first heard the slide and pedal steel guitar on Eno's Apollo album I didn't like it. Back then it meant country music to me & at the time I was heavy into prog rock & hated country music. I grew to love the sound of Lanois' guitar and now I adore properly used pedal steel.
