The first group of Lao refugee arrived in Australia on March 19, 1976.Since then they have settled very well.They have built Lao Buddhist temples in nearly all Australian major cities such as Wat Lao Buddhanimith in ACT. Recently a small group of ACT Lao people showed up at the Wat Lao Buddhanimith.They carried or wrapped themselves in the Royal Lao National flag while the Lao ambassador, wife and stuffs were in the wat to engage in a Buddhist rite. The flag is a symbol of resistance against the Lao Communist party and the Lao government. The group aim was to tell Australian Lao to exercise their freedom and not to be scare of the Lao communist party and the government in Laos. Interviewee: Pong Sitthidet, an ACT Lao.
