BBC RADIO ONE is a music radio station based in London broadcasting to the UK. In line with all BBC channels, it cannot broadcast commercials and is financed through a licence fee.
Established 1967 by request of the Government following the banning of the 'pirates', Radio 1 met a need in the UK for a legal pop music station. The first Disc Jockey heard was Tony Blackburn with his breakfast show. The station became hugely popular with a pop music format by day, and rock/progressive music by night.
