Johnnie chats to the multi-talented Mike Batt about his 70s memories.
Mike began his career in the music industry at Liberty Records in the late 1960s. The 70s saw him work with the likes of Elkie Brooks and Steeleye Span as a producer, writer and arranger as well as producing music with his own Mike Batt Orchestra. It's his work with The Wombles that bring back the biggest memories for many of us - he began working with them in 1974. Mike wrote the theme music for the television programme and went on to produce eight hit singles and four gold albums for Wimbledon’s most famous furry exports.
Mike also wrote and produced the incredible ‘Bright Eyes’ for Art Garkfunkel, which became a huge hit in 1979. The 1980s and 90s saw him work with the likes of David Essex, Alvin Stardust, the violinist Vanessa Mae and Katie Melua to name just a few.
