I was honoured when Pe approached me about doing a swap of our shows a few weeks back, but puzzled about what to do were I to take over The TwelveInch for a day.
One night, while I was in the trance I usually fall into when selecting and downloading mp3s, it hit me: there was a preponderance of solid tunes from 1979, one right after the other, from a wide variety of genres which could all be classified as dance music. So 1979 it is.
And what a year! New Wave starts to come into the mainstream, Chic are everywhere, Rapper's Delight debuts, and Kiss is making disco tunes. What's not to like???
(And I have always wanted an excuse to mix Good Times into Rapper's Delight. Thanks, Pe!)
And my own twist: most of these are remixes or edits of the originals, leaning heavily on Dimitri from Paris, Sgt Slick, and a few other masters of the craft.
