I was born in Cádiz. I'm not certain it had an effect on my future musical tastes, but quién sabe?
In 2023, Mrs G, Little Miss G, and I spent a week in Seville. It reawakened in me my taste for Flamenco and Spanish guitar in general. And Little Miss G was entranced by live performances both at Plaza de España and in a theatre setting.
The following is composed of selections from flamenco and its cousin, rumba catalana, and derivatives from and relatives to both styles of music.
We begin with my favourite single piece of classical music, performed by one of the greatest guitarists of modern times. And we end with an original orchestral piece by an artist we had the pleasure in seeing live almost a year ago. In between we have many styles and moods - it's not all heels clicking on boards and wailing in slurred Andalucian.
This one is dedicated to Little Miss G.
Happy New Year all, and I hope you enjoy this one.
