It was about time to pull together a mix filled with some of my reggae and ska favourites again. The biggest challenge for me was whittling down the list to get to a 2-hour playing time.
Many of these songs formed a big part of the soundtrack of my life from my early teens on and are classics in their own right.
We have a fair sampling of the various styles and sounds that fall under the umbrella of reggae and ska, from Rastafarian roots to 2 Tone, from dancehall to rocksteady, from Jamaican to British reggae, and a few examples of the space where ska and reggae meet other influences (such as Argentinian bands Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Los Pericos, and the legendary American band Fishbone). And a couple of Jim Sharp re-shapings of classic dancehall tunes.
I hope you enjoy listening to this compilation as much as I enjoyed pulling it together and listening to it myself - this mix is going to be a mainstay of future car journeys!
