Description
I look back to 19.09.2014 when we made this Resonance fm 104.4 London programme and I still find it profoundly moving. Chris Butler witnessed armed National Guard with tanks kill a close friend and saw three others shot dead and 13 injured on his campus in Ohio. President Nixon called the students 'bums' and sent in the army in to quell what was merely student mischief on the back of The Civil Rights Movement and Anti-War peace initiatives. It was a massive over reaction that families took years to fight in courts. Cathy Tidman who was also a student at Kent State meets Chris live on air here in London for the first time since 1970 to discuss the event that changed their lives forever. Chris Butler was later famously in Tin Huey and then formed the 'fictional band' The Waitresses with members of Suicide and Television, among others. He debuted here, Easy Life - The Bohemian Dream Of The American Nightmare of Kent State University for British listeners. Henry Scott-Irvine - Producer
