I had to do this one for my roots!! Cumbia is often misunderstood. It's a mix of African percussion and Native roots mixed with many European harmonic influences, accordions, guitars, wind instruments, brass and pianos. Cumbia is a close cousin to Afro-Cuban music to what is known as Salsa today. Many instrumental elements are shared between both, most notably on the percussion side. Born in Colombia, Cumbia spread far and wide, with regional styles and flavors developing along the way. It spans all of Spanish-speaking Continental Latin America, from Mexico, through El Salvador, Venezuela and Peru right down to Argentina. This is my tribute to this special music I grew up with and still holds a special place in my heart.
