Interesting blend of styles by artists who're not in a "box" and "labelled"...the tragedy of guys like Jimi and many others was the contract they signed when joining a record label basically took their freedom away. They were forced to do the same thing over and over and over again. I think it was George Michael who proved as the first (White) artist that one can have succes in the top 10 of the Soul/R&B/Pop charts with the same track simultaneously showing those asshats they were wrong with an artist can only have success in one single chart. He still had to take his record company to court because of the contract he desperately wanted to get out of. Nowadays guys can control everything, from recording, mastering to distribution. Some of it is only available on download sites and not put on CD anymore.Good or bad...I think we gotta get used to it.At least the money goes into the pocket of the artist, not to the record company.Which I think is a lot fairer than it used to be...
