"Der Landvermesser" or "the Surveyor" is a story by Franz Kafka,a Czech author writing in German who has a reputation of writing about downtrodden, unlucky people and the precarious situations they find themselves in. I think there's quite some humour in his mostly weird stories, hilarious things happening to a bit helpless individuals who for some reason or other can't extricate themselves from their predicaments. Kafka died young of tuberculosis,as so many people did in his day. A bit of a tragic character on a personal level, who has been misunderstood and interpreted upon by legions of so called "scholars" and literary "specialists" who make a living by blubbering bullshit about people they take upon themselves to analyze and write about.I suspect they suck a lot of it out of their bums just to make financial gain out of these long dead people.
