Baghdad,capital city of Iraq and the province by the same name,the city was founded in the 8th century by Abu Jafar al-Mansur and became the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate and evolved rapidly into an important cultural,commercial and intellectual center for the Islamic world.It was occupied by the Turks and Iranians for a while and then by the British until Iraq's independence.
Over the past centuries it declined steadily until recent foreign military intervention led by the U.S.A with the excuse to rid the country of it's dictator Saddam Hussein,destroyed much of it's infrastructure.
The U.S seems to have forgotten that it was them in the first place who helped Saddam to get there and hold on to power for such a long time.
But this is not the place to get in to that sort of thing...
