Joy On Overtime intersects where nostalgia meets modern music. A combination of both inner reflection and outward action, from quirked up existential dread to the nonsensical inner dialogues of the creative mind. A “hero’s journey” of sorts, this mix explores the bipolar nature of creativity. When inspiration and output miraculously align, there is a vibrato of hope; winding eventually into loss and failure, stuck in a spiral of one’s own inner dialogue. Then when all seems lost, it heroically comes back around to a more mature creative direction, embodying a new found hopeful irreverence.
My favorite electronic artists of this decade utilize nostalgic media of the late 90s and early 00s, breathing new life into sounds from video game soundtracks, movies and television to elicit emotional responses from those who were alive to live it, or taking younger generations down a rabbit hole to discover a whole new world of not too distant cultural history.
