Description
We welcomed Olcay Bayir into the studio this week on A World in London, as she performed for us a selection of songs from her highly acclaimed debut album, Neva.
Her elegant vocals were accompanied by Elizabeth Nott on percussion, Ewan Bleach on clarinet, Aurel Qirjo on violin, Georg Tsauß on guitar and Thodoris Ziarkas on double bass. Olcay’s repertoire, encompassing five languages, is a rich tapestry of the traditional folk songs of minorities and different cultures which exist in Anatolia.
"She won’t remain a newcomer for long and could be the long awaited spearhead for musical revolution from Turkish/Kurdish London!"
