My grandmother was a British War Bride from Plymouth where she met my grandfather, a US Navy man, during World War II. Before she passed, I interviewed her about her experience during The Blitz, her courtship with my grandfather and making the big move to America, of which she knew very little about. Her bravery was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, including myself. I made a similar journey coming from the USA to the UK but under very different modern circumstances and it is difficult to truly comprehend the giant leap she took.
Here is her story along with music from the era - a personal podcast. You may find Vera’s story interesting - the tales of Plymouth during the war and the challenges of being a war bride and emigrating to a country across the Atlantic Ocean. I feel she would have been happy to share her story and do this in her honour.
