Cornwall’s emergency services were celebrated this weekend at Helifest, with upwards of four thousand people enjoying the event held at Scorrier House near Redruth.
The family fun day was a big success - with live music, emergency vehicles to explore, and a chance for kids (and adults!) to meet some of the crews working so hard to keep us all safe and well here in Cornwall and on the Isles of Scilly.
The event also gave the public their first look at Cornwall Air Ambulance’s brand-new second helicopter, made possible by the incredible generosity of the public via the Heli2 Appeal.
Tom Howe reports from the ground (not the skies!) and is joined by Steve Garvey, Air Operations Officer at Cornwall Air Ambulance, Andy Brelsford, chair of the West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team and David Jones, an emergency care assistant with South West Ambulance Service Trust, with musical accompaniment provided by Our Atlantic Roots, who were one of many groups performing live on Saturday.
