When tensions mount, musicians tend to write songs to sum up the emotions and goings-on of the times. These often take the form of protest songs. These are songs that either take a stand in and of themselves or are the anthem for a given movement. We're taking a look throughout history and picking some of our favorites, which include, but are not limited to songs by Woody Guthrie, Nina Simone, Gil Scott Heron, and Public Enemy.
