Bestimix 77: D/R/U/G/S

This week's Bestimix is the work of much-feted Mancunian producer Callum Wright aka D/R/U/G/S, who specializes in the kind of euphoric sleazy club music that is likely be ruling dancefloors in 2012 once he drops his eagerly awaited debut album. But he's no one-trick pony. Inspired by the abstract, futuristic hip-hop of DOOM as much as the languid Euro-cool techno of Pantha du Prince, tracks like the elegiac 'Love/Lust', with its subtle piano refrain, remind us of not so much of the former but rather one of Underworld's epic, psychedelic instrumentals. That, by the way, is a very good thing. You can hear it for yourself on this Besti-mix, nestled between recent club classics (Midland's mix of Caribou's 'Sun' and Ame's 'Rej') and a smattering of the finest new underground house and techno from the likes of Berlin's Ben Klock and Brooklyn's Blondes.
