Many moons ago (about 17 years actually), a put together a couple of mix CDs which I handed out to a few friends. This was way back in the early 00s, and we’d all been energised by the discovery of this incredible DJ and music scene which happened in Italy in the 80s (Danielle Baldelli & Cosmic, obvs), as well as mixes like Harvey’s “Sarcastic Disco’ and “Moonshadows” sets.
We were all hoovering up as many records from these Baldelli tapes and fan lists as we could find, which was pretty easy and cheap back then. Gemm and eBay were getting a serious pounding, but shipping, even from the US, was really cheap, so often we would be buying blind. Hongkong Syndikat’s Concrete + Clay sticks in the mind as what one might class as a ‘mistake’ from this period of activity.
