"During and since the Victorian Era, a galaxy of fine carols, possessing great charm, have been written. These, whilst full of beauty and in keeping with the present mode of thought, appear more as delightful Christmas songs, when compared with the ancient carols that display the sincerity and rugged strength of the people who wrote and sang them." - The Etude Music Magazine December 1936.
This December you've been subjected to exotica Christmas, wacky Christmas and cracker jack fun Christmas, so what is left. A lot really, but one of those is normal songs. Yeah, rather than lunacy like the other week, this is normalcy. Pleasant enough songs that don't quite fit in the other Christmas categories I usually have. These tend to be recorded a little later, 60's and 70's, and are aimed largely at adults rather than children or crazy people. Some are a bit slick or a bit sentimental, maybe perfectly capturing the duality of Christmas itself in the modern age.
