Description
The Wyrding Floor with Max Dupa - a monthly hour where leftfield music meets British folklore and the turning of the year. 'The Traveller's Rest' is our Refugee Week solstice special. The sun is the oldest traveller we know - solstice means 'the sun stands still,' pausing on the longest day - so the hour is built as the warm room you arrive into. British folklore is a living tapestry woven by everyone who ever arrived (the word 'refugee' is itself a 1685 British coinage), so every record here is a traveller too: music made by exiles, the displaced, and the diaspora who built new traditions here. Downtempo world, folk, soul and dub, drifting from desert blues to lovers rock - Tinariwen, Songhoy Blues, Letta Mbulu, Mohammad Assaf, Kokoroko, Janet Kay. Several tracks come from Paradisco For Palestine; buying the music is itself a welcome. Be kind to a stranger this week. Catch you somewhere between the roots and the rhythm - where the hedge hums and the kick drum answers.
