The Langas and Manganiyars are hereditary Muslim communities of folk musicians from Thar desert in western Rajasthan. They are known for their traditional knowledge, ballads, songs, and folklore. The main instrument for the Manganiyars is the kamaicha, a bowed stringed instrument with a rounded resonator covered with goat skin.They also play the dholak, kartal,harmonium and morchan. The main instrument for the Langas is the sindhi sarangi, a bowed stringed instrument and the Algoza (double flute). Langas are known for their improvisations and their instrumental and vocal ornamentation. Men and women often perform together.
