“Challengers” was a film and phenomenon from the first half of 2024. Music, however, was as much a part of that cultural moment as what was on screen. The film’s – soundtrack scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – gave it an instant audible connotation with its dark, pulsating techno. To me, it felt like a rare moment where thousands of people who would not otherwise engage with this genre were listening to it on the court, at the gym, or on TikTok - it soared on the charts. It is a clubworthy soundtrack that reminded me it was not the first time electronic music appeared in film, albeit perhaps the most recognized. And so I asked myself whether I could make a set only by using tracks featured in film scores - one that you could hear and not even realize it was made for cinema.
