Philippa invites us on another morning walk through the Boglands, to celebrate one of the oldest known musical instruments, the Harp. Pieces selected feature electroacoustic harp techniques, an experimental composition in conversation with diesel locomotives, the Begena (sacred Ethiopian lyre), an ecstatic piece from the traditions of the Columbian/Venezuelan lowlands inspired by the feeling of driving on European motorways, as well as some of the Irish and Scottish traditional harp music Philippa grew up listening to.
Boglands is both an imagined place based on the bogs of Midlothian and Donegal, and the wetlands and marshes along the River Lea, and an allegory of all human relationship to place and nature, explored through traditional and experimental music and field recordings.
