Description
Around the World in 80 Plays hosted by Tom Parry is the show that aims to spotlight genres, styles, and artists from around the globe. From Ghanaian Highlife to Brazilian Samba, from Zamrock to Libyan Reggae and much more in between. In the first of a series of special episodes for Voices Radio, this show takes you on a journey through Ghanaian music, from early palm wine and guitar and dance band highlife music, to the disco and electronic inspired burger highlife to the wonderful sounds of Frafra Gospel and modern Afro-beats. Two books in particular were vital in putting this show together; Highlife Giants: West African Dance Band Pioneers by John Collins and A Quick Ting on Afrobeats by Christian Adofo. You can find a link to these in the show notes, along with links to other radio shows and podcasts that were used in research for the show.
