The older I get, the more I get into jazz (again). When I look at what LPs I bought over the last few years, apart from weird German stuff, it was mostly jazz classics & records I remember my dad played when I was growing up. We had an informal deal in my late teens/early 20s: I could grab records from his modest collection as long as I got him the album on cd. A Dave Brubeck Best Of was one of the first I remember listening to vividly. A few weeks ago I finally found his 'unsquare dance' on 45 (a German 4-track EP) & decided to do a mix of jazz and jazz-related stuff on 45s.

Souljazz, hammond, a few covers, short detours to Africa, Brazil & Turkey. Lots of (re)discoveries I would have loved to share with him but he unfortunately passed away in 2022.

So in a way this mix fits the 'when I was young' theme. If he hadn’t taken me to concerts at the jazz club or played albums to to me, I don’t know if I would appreciate this music this much.
