Until recently, I didn't really know the work of Chico Freeman. Then I bumped into this record with a high Miami Vice feel. When I saw Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Hutcherson, Cecil McBee and Paulinho Da Costa played on the same record, I decided to take it home. There I was immediately struck by the sound and feeling of Chico Freeman. I had to know more!
This mix is the result of my exploration. From spiritual to swing to folky and spacey, Freeman mastered it all. So, I'm really happy I could share this during the International Jazz Day marathon on Ness Radio. It was followed by a Freeman tribute by Mo' Jazz, who had the same idea. Cosmic coincidence! Thanks to all the selectors that created mixes for IJD on Ness Radio. The love was oozing from my speakers.
