Since the mid-seventies, many jazz musicians have oriented more and more towards the modern soul. The transformation then reached its peak in the eighties. The result was some first class soul pieces, many of which are also my all time favorites. Check out this wonderful work from Ramsey Lewis, George Benson, George Duke and Lonnie Liston Smith, but also some other delicious soul masterpieces from the 80s.
