Producers Special Part20: Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis - Architects Of The 80s R&B Sound

This is part 20 of my homage to the most important producers of our beloved music. Today we hear one of the most successful producer duos in history. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have produced 16 number 1 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and had had 41 songs reach the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. They were the architects of the mid-80s sounds and set standards with it. Everyone wanted to sound like them - these two were the benchmark for all sounds from the mid 80's onwards. A recurring element in Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' productions since the early '80s has been the use of analog synthesizers and drum machines such as the Roland TR-808 or Oberheim synthesizers.
