My new programme for River Dee Radio is a homage to the late, great DJ Johnnie Walker, who sadly passed in December. Johnnie’s Sounds of the 70’s show on Sunday afternoons on BBC Radio 2 became something of an institution until he was forced to retire due to ill health in October last year.
One of the features of Johnnie’s Sounds of the 70’s was called BETTER THAN ORIGINAL – and this is the theme of my latest show which begins broadcasting tonight (Monday) at 9 pm UTC, running for just one week, due to end next Sunday, which would have been Johnnie’s 80th birthday. I chose 12 recordings that featured in Johnnie’s show and play a snippet of the original record followed by the “BTO”. You can be the judge of which is the better.
