Tune in for another slice of rock history from Ian R Stewart of River Dee Radio. In the week of Glastonbury, it comemmorates a long forgotten predecessor – THE BATH FESTIVAL OF BLUES AND PROGRESSIVE MUSIC ’70. Fifty three years ago, this was one of the forerunners of major rock festivals and, looking on enviously, was a young(er) Michael Eavis whose Glastonbury Fayre (as it was then titled) was a much lower key affair, lacking the huge crowd appeal of Bath’s headliners. Lesson learned, Glastonbury is probably now the biggest arts/music festival in the world.
There is insufficient quantity – and especially, quality – recordings now available from the 1970 Bath Festival but this retrospective attempts to replicate it as closely as possible – same running order, all live, approximating what they would have sounded like then
