Songlines, the radio show created by Dylan Trenouth, returns to challenge the idea, often heard, that London has no folk culture when compared with rural Britain. Over the course of an hour, we'll hear the broadside ballads, criminals' last goodbyes and sailor songs that have soundtracked the streets of London throughout the centuries. We'll imagine market streets packed wall to wall with street-criers and hawkers and learn how the tradition of London stallholders singing as advertisement for their wares resulted in a folk genre that's unique to the city.
