Polemic, politics, mouth jazz and spontaneous music with Ben Watson. This week: Ben presents a programme inspired by a performance at Clifton Terrace in Cape Town by the Garth Erasmus Quintet (Garth Erasmus - tenor sax, electronics; Manfred Zylla - voice, trombone; Andre Emdon - keyboards; Terence Visagie - accordion; Zyanda Dyani - voice) on 21st September. The immersive, oceanic music recalled the late Butch Morris's "conductions", so we hear excerpts from his concert at Tufts University on 12th February 1985, plus tracks from Leviathan (Topic, 1967), A. L. Lloyd's LP of whaler's songs.
