Polemic, politics, mouth jazz and spontaneous music with Ben Watson. Today: Hop Skip Ergo Ad Hoc. Combining onomatopoeia describing Ian Dogstar's synth with Derek Bailey's favourite Latin tag, this episode radically challenges western notions of ethnicity and commercial identity. Music by AMM All-Stars from their Betsey Trotwood Friday lunchtime sessions - Nick Lubran and Out To Lunch last Friday, Dogstar and The Baxterium from 26th September - is seamlessly segued to contemporary xenochronic compositions involving Dogstar's synth, Out To Lunch's splash ’n' klang and Peter Baxter's beats. The "ethnic" element is provided by tracks from Greek Folk Music Volume III "Wedding Songs" issued by the Pelopponesian Folklore Foundation in 1977, plus Frank Zappa's freeform guitar - "Once Again, Without the Net" - from 1984. "My guitar sounds to me like a bouzouki" said Zappa. Chew on that, citizens.
