Description
In the Romanian province of Moldavia there are two main streams of traditional music. First there is Muzica Populara which is the real folk music mostly played with traditional instruments like violin, accordion, saxophone and with a main role for the trumpet. This form of music is still very much alive with Sofia Vicoveanca as the queen of the Moldavian sound.

Secondly there is Petrecere which means party or celebration. And that is what Petrecere is.. party music! Traditional instruments have largely been taken over by one or two keyboard workstations and the puzzling melodies are carried by straight forward drum computer beats. This is the sound you hear in the streets, the village life, in cafés and at weddings. For hours non stop young and old dance together in large circles. Now You can Too
