Description

Oye papi, oye mami! This time, we take you to the streets of Panama City for a short dive into the local urban music scene. In the 90s, Panamanian producers transformed imported Jamaican reggae-dancehall music, sung in Spanish over it and called it 'reggaeton'. Then as with other (pan)-Carribean styles like cumbia, salsa, reggae, merengue and dancehall, it became a pan-american, and eventually a global thing.
Today, Panama still pours dirty sweat and dale duro-ness as you can hear on this mixtape, which presents a hotlist of local singers, producers and bands, popular in genres like reggaeton, dembow, dancehall, merengue and murga (brass band music).
All tracks come from cd's picked up in Panama City in 2011. Selected & mixed by LeBlanc.
