Guled Mire is a speaker, advocate and writer. He is recognised as one of the most prominent voices in New Zealand advocating for a more humane, inclusive and welcoming society. He is passionate about advancing the social well-being of New Zealand’s ethnic and former refugee communities.
Guled was born in Somalia and resettled in New Zealand with his family aged six years as former refugees. Prior to being resettled in New Zealand, Guled and his family briefly lived in a Kenyan refugee camp. He now works in central government policy and spends much of his spare time supporting ethnic youth and former refugee initiatives in the areas of identity, civic participation, social cohesion and leadership.
