Roots & Culture DJ’s Topknot and Misteek pay tribute to fellow Active whānau member and Aotearoa music legend DJ Mu.
Known worldwide as one of the founders of Fat Freddy’s Drop, Mu was a staple of Wellington roots & reggae music. His involvement with Roots Foundation Sound System, Bongmaster, and Fat Freddy’s Drop influenced a generation of reggae listeners, and pioneered a sound synonymous with Wellington.
Closer to home, Mu joined Radio Active at university in the late 1980’s as a DJ, as well as working behind the scenes in the production of radio ads. He often joined Jim Scott and John Campbell on-air as their sideline correspondent for the “Alternative Rugby Commentary”.
