This week is a tribute to Philadelphia International Records founded by the legendary Kenny gamble and Leon Huff
They gain notoriety for showcasing the sounds of Philadelphia music (aka Philly soul) that had it's roots in gospel, doo-wop, and soul music of the time. The Philly Soul sound later became a distinctive sound of the 70's and early 80's releasing hit songs for a number of artist worldwide with a back drop of lavish orchestral instrumentation , Strings, horns, heavy bass, and driving percussion.
The next 2 hours feartures a small selection of tracks from their vast catologue of music.
featuring acts include The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, MFSB, Billy Paul, The jones girls, Jean Carn, The Stylistics, Archie Bell & The Drells, and Lou Rawls to name a few. Between 1971 and the early 80s, they produced over 170 gold and platinum records.
