Thamesmead Wild Chorus is a series of three sound collages from an off-grid audio stream in a hidden nature reserve in Thamesmead. Devised by Calum F Kerr with additional commentary from ornithological investigator J D Swann. Listeners to the stream could experience day and night ambient sound from the reserve, the myriad of birds and other animals living there including bees, foxes and toads. Thamesmead Wild Chorus was online from 28 10/21 to 15 /12/21 and 24/03/22 to 31/07/22.
The audio stream is formed of a solar panel attached to a wheeled trolley. Inside a weather-proof box is a solar charge controller and battery which powers a Raspberry PI computer and WI-FI router. Sensitive microphones stream the sound to the Locus Sonus platform. Locus Sonus is a world-wide network of live audio streams.
