Description
We return with another documentary type retrospective this Saturday to look back , on the anniversary of his passing, at the most formative years of Lee Scratch Perry's career the period between 1972-1975 . This was a new chapter which began as Perry's relationship with the Wailers came to a bitter (though not final) end when he sells their tapes to Trojan Records and keeps the money for himself . After years of moving between Jamaica’s competing facilities, Perry now decides to build his own studio at the back of his house in Washington Gardens. Lee would also use extreme EQ to emphasize the bass and tops, and his hi-hat sound is instantly recognisable. Mixing archival interviews with standout productions of this period, this piece comes courtesy of archive of radio station CKTU in Montreal, which Olly volunteers in, as well as extracts from the documentary "The Upsetter Life And Music Of Lee Scratch Perry" (2008).
