This is an interesting experiment - listen to only the slow movements of Beethoven's nine symphonies in order, 1 to 9. It starts out classical-sounding in the 1st Symphony, but by the 2nd Symphony Beethoven's imagination is set loose. Simply beautiful music. The Staaskapelle Berlin plays the 1st and 5th.
