Description
Space Black's Heba sits down with fellow Sudanese Basma, as they discuss her chosen Homeplace: Southend-on-Sea. Together they explore Basmas unexpected attachment and sense of power the coastline gave her and her family, between a selection of amazing Sudanese tracks.
"My chosen space is the seaside at Southend-on-Sea, where my mother has lived since I was 14. We had no community there other than each other, other than the sea.
These are the songs she used to blast as she drove us up and down the seafront to pass the time over the years. This mix is an ode to my mother and the little home she made for us by the sea, unexpectedly."
Moved by their dialouge and in response to Basma, Heba ends the show with a Sudanese track of her choice which she associated with the Homeplace she finds in her culture.
