In the 1990's there was a new metal/hardcore scene. A scene made up of kids who grew up on their older brothers Metallica albums, who were able to utilize the DIY touring scene that was created by hardcore punk rockers like Black Flag. A scene that drew from European black metal bands for crushing noise and included people who cut their teeth playing jazz at NYU or Berkley. The 1990s metalcore scene brought technique to the hardcore punks and for those who disdained the lame blues-based Led Zepplin heroin 3 chord that the alternative world became, it was salvation.
