NTS Guide to: Rare Groove Jungle - 11th December 2025

Jungle would not exist without samples, and sampling culture. The foundational bedrock of the genre – the break – are isolated drum sections from older records, most notably the break from The Winstons' "Amen Brother". This re-imagining of classic soul, jazz and R&B music often extends to the melodic samples in jungle, creating a distinctive softer side to the genre, recalling slow jams and emotive ballads.
