I went deep into my roots with this mix. I selected the songs in collaboration with my Mom, with the intention of creating a sonic space that honors the music that my grandparents loved. Sheik, my grandfather, was a Guyanese American man who fell in love with my Muriel, my grandmother, a black women from DC. The music they shared spans Brazilian Music, Funk, Latin Jazz and R&B. This mix, titled Deep Roots, honors not only the love they shared, but the connection my family and I continue to share with them through music.
