In 2013, one year before his untimely passing, DJ Rashad visited my hometown Zurich. His performance alongside DJ Spinn has stayed with me over the years, because it sounded so familiar and fresh at the same time. As a 90s jungle kid, the technical nature of the mixing reminded me of sets by LTJ Bukem, himself a master of back and forth on the crossfader. Footwork or Juke, to me, felt like the logical return of breakbeats and rumbling basslines from England back to Chicago and Detroit, the orbit from which many influences flowed into the UK acid house, hardcore and ultimately jungle culture in the late 80s and early 90s. This mix is my tribute to this cyclical history.
