Shakedown is a Sound System started by Gin (Turner prize nominated - Black Obsidian Sound
System) and Ash Walker.
Here to bridge the gap and deliver a soundscape of classic 70’s & 80’s reggae, rocksteady,
roots and soul music to a modern audience, breaking down barriers of past generations and
creating a dancehall atmosphere that is inclusive for all, regardless of gender or spirituality.
Shakedown brings back the love and enjoyment of the dance by playing strictly original 45’s. We
use music as a means of education taking our listeners on audible journeys through time. In this
mix curated for monkey shoulder, we explore some of the musical greats from the islands as
well as some of our all time favourite cuts.
